Kevin Diallo’s work explores institutionalised ideas of Black and African authenticity. He breaks down and challenges these concepts through a variety of mediums, such as photography, collage, installation, sculpture and new media.
He often creates intricately patterned works referencing traditional African design to investigate complex cultural history. By using collage techniques to reform and subvert visual representations found in the media, Kevin’s practice suggests a new future. He brings his experience and perspective as a member of the African diaspora to look at how technology intersects with Blackness.
For nearly a decade, Kevin has exhibited in galleries in Sydney, Melbourne and Canberra, including at UTS Gallery, Casula Powerhouse, Firstdraft and Seventh Gallery. In 2020, he presented a key body of work, Blue, as part of the esteemed Ideas Platform at Artspace in Sydney. He is a finalist in The Churchie Emerging Art Prize 2022.
