Who is Aster + Asha Gallery?
Established in 2021 in Brisbane, Australia, by Bayoush Demissie, the gallery’s name takes inspiration from her family heritage. Aster is an Ethiopian name meaning star and Asha is an Indian name referring to hope and life.
Bayoush has worked in art galleries for over a decade, with experience in commercial galleries throughout Australia, most recently at Jan Murphy Gallery in Brisbane, as well as in public organisations such as the Perth Institute of Contemporary Arts (PICA). Having worked with leading artists and industry, she has extensive knowledge of the Australian contemporary arts scene brings and her bold vision, experience, knowledge and unique perspective when selecting artist for Aster + Asha Gallery.
