Passage of the Sun

This exhibition brings together a group of artists who consider the sun's influence and journey on our world. Each day, the sun can be sensed constantly moving through the sky, it’s light bringing brightness, casting shadows, illuminating colour and nourishing life.

As our planet Earth revolves around the sun, the sun itself moves slowly through space across a spiral shaped galaxy. Every dawn anew, solar energy radiates down and the sun’s beams guide the rhythms of our existence. These new paintings, photographic and mixed media works reveal the ever present power of the sun.

The artists take distinct approaches in their works for the show and include Carla Adams’ exploring Gypsy mythology in her rhinestone work, The Cursed Woman. Haruka Sawa’s painting reveals the night sky, a realm where the lack of the sun’s presence is keenly felt. Whilst a series of cyanotypes – photographs created using the sun’s light – allow Kevin Diallo to consider the sun’s duration and life giving power.
