Taryn Ossowski 'Lucid Garden'
Featuring a new series of paintings, Taryn Ossowski’s’ solo exhibition, Lucid Garden, invites viewers into a world of luminous colour and light. These beautiful works are suggestive of other dimensions and are powerful meditations on earth, spirit and sensation.
Expressive in nature, this body of work deliberately weaves earthbound elements – chalky purples, browns and muted tones that suggest soil, bark, a weathered stone, a feather – with sudden pops of colour and translucency. Often floral forms emerge leaving streaks of colour in their wake, whilst slowly built layers create a softly glowing texture. A shimmering intensity, vitality and energy is palpable in each painting, allowing for moments of guided wonder.
She creates her paintings using traditional hake and calligraphy brushes to apply layer after layer of raw mineral pigments. The resulting soft, immediate and imperfect marks are influenced by East Asian mark-making traditions. In generating these marks, Taryn is required to tune into a specific type of presence, rhythm and embodiment, allowing her to channel the quality and intensity of inner states.
