Congratulations to Nathan Beard who is a finalist in this year’s prestigious Ramsay Art Prize held at the Art Gallery of South Australia.
One of the major art prizes for contemporary Australian artists under 40, the finalists are selected by a distinguished panel of judges. The judges in 2021 are Wiradjuri artist Karla Dickens, Dr Daniel Mudie Cunningham, Director of Programs at Carriageworks and Rebecca Evans, Curator of Decorative Arts & Design at AGSA. The winner will be announced on Friday 21 May 2021.
Nathan’s work in the prize, Limp-wristed Gesture (i) 2020 sees the artist’s hands cast in fleshy silicone as they perform a floral gesture from traditional Thai dance. Embellished with repurposed cultural objects, including garlands made from hand-stitched monks’ robes, the work draws upon spiritual totems of cultural pride and expression.
